Debit Card Policy

Why EMV Chip Cards?

Reduce fraud from counterfeit, lost or stolen cards;

Provide a better experience for international travelers with worldwide interoperability;

Pave the way for mobile payments and other applications!

EMV Debit Card Info:

Visa® (EMV) requirements ensure interoperability between chip-based payment cards and terminals. Chip cards contain embedded microprocessors that provide strong transaction security features and other application capabilities not possible with traditional magnetic stripe cards.

The card chip:

  • Stores cardholder data securely;
  • Protects data against unauthorized modification;
  • Reduces the number of fraudulent transactions resulting from counterfeit, lost or stolen cards.

Customers who have a Carroll County Trust Company Debit Card will begin to receive their new EMV Chip Card in the mail during the month that their current card expires.

Generally, a customer would not receive a new card until the month and year their old card expires however we have chosen to transition to the secure EMV Cards at a more rapid pace.

When you receive your new EMV Chip card you will need to activate the card within the month of your expiring card and then destroy and dispose of your old magnetic strip card or bring it to the bank and we will take care of disposal for you.
